How we invest in our employees: four Nest career journeys

At Nest, we pride ourselves on providing a working environment built around our people and their development. Our strong preference is to develop from within and you can see examples of this all over the company.

With this in mind, we asked four members of the team to discuss their journeys at Nest.

Luke Spencer

Luke Spencer

Account Director

“Before Nest, I was working across sportswear brands Adidas and Reebok at MediaCom, with a focus on cross-border strategies and driving incrementality. I was attracted to Nest because of the expert knowledge the agency had on growing clients through social and scaling their ecommerce. This was something I was interested in and I wanted to be part of a team that focused on making an impact on our client’s revenue as well as being at the front of paid social.

I joined Nest as a Performance Marketing Manager leading the day-to-day strategy of one of Nest’s largest clients Ted Baker. During my time at Nest, I’ve worked on growing the accounts through upper funnel activations and supporting clients’ strategies across multiple markets; the UK, North America and Europe. I was promoted to Senior Performance Marketing Manager, to Head of Delivery, and now to Account Director, where I manage relationships across some of Nest’s biggest fashion advertisers.”

Account Director

“I joined Nest 5 years ago straight from university where I studied psychology. I found the job through a LinkedIn advert and was immediately attracted to the agency culture and the progression opportunities within the company.

They call me the Boomerang kid
I was a marketing executive for a year and then left to do a masters degree at Guildford School of Acting. That was during the pandemic, so when Nest moved to fully online working, I rejoined whilst finishing my studies. Covid also made it difficult to get acting jobs, so I permanently rejoined Nest in the Autumn of 2020 supporting Nest’s accelerator programme which looked to quickly scale smaller spending startups.

4 promotions in 5 years with 2 sabbaticals
I was then promoted again to Performance Marketing Manager in 2021 working on ME+EM, Celtic & Co, and Spoke and then again to Paid Media Team Lead in 2022. This was managing a team of 2 people looking after Missoma, The Fold and Mint Velvet.

I was then cast in a show at the Edinburgh Fringe across the Summer of 2023 and agreed with Nest to go on sabbatical for 12 weeks. I was promoted to Account Director before my leave and on my return in October 2023 continued working with my previous clients and adding Elizabeth Scarlett and Finisterre to the mix. I love Nest because it’s dynamic, fast paced with great people. They always had a working from home policy (even before the pandemic) and people leave on time. Nest still has a great culture with a lot of trust in the team to do a great job for customers.”

Paid Media Team Lead

“I joined Nest as a graduate back in January 2020, with a short stint in their first offices before the pandemic hit and we started working from home! I’d never really known about performance marketing before joining Nest, however, I quickly learnt it was a career I was keen to progress in. I love the breadth that marketing offers in terms of analysis, creative ideation – and the chance to get to know experts in the marketing field at big-name ecommerce brands.

I gained a wealth of experience through scaling fashion clients such as ME+EM and Seraphine, in addition to launching international strategies for brands including Spoke and Wild. This really helped build my confidence across paid social and client servicing! In July 2021, I was promoted to performance marketing manager, where I got the opportunity to lead the marketing strategy for fashion clients including RIXO and Crew Clothing.

Over the course of my time here so far, I’ve had the opportunity to work with eleven different clients, initially working with smaller budgets, and I’m now responsible for several times the amount in monthly budgets across my clients!”

Arnaud B. Betourne

Head of Strategy

“Before joining Nest, I had a varied career working across a lot of digital channels from Search, to in-house and finally at Meta as a Client Solutions Director working on fashion brands. It was here I got my deep technical knowledge of paid social for fashion ecommerce, servicing brands like Ted Baker, Charles TryWhitt, Burberry, Jimmy Choo, ASOS and N Brown Group.

I joined Nest in February 2022 as Head of Delivery on Finisterre, Miniclip and Bluebella. I then commenced their leadership training programme in May 2022 which really helped me crystallise what my strengths are, what I like doing and where I could add more value to the business.

I get energy from learning new challenges, meeting new people and quickly getting up to speed on new businesses and thought I could add more value by supporting Luke, our co-founder, on new business development and strategy and transitioned to my new role as Head of Strategy in October 2022.

Compared to everywhere else I’ve worked the three things that I value most about Nest are:

  • The high levels of transparency around everything: culture, business and team
  • The impact I am able to make within a supportive environment. It’s easy to ask for help but it’s also important for me to try and solve challenges independently.
  • It’s super dynamic. We work in the ever changing digital landscape and it’s great to keep on top, and ahead, of these developments.

From a personal growth perspective: Nest has helped me gain confidence in voicing my opinion. I’ve always loved the clients I’ve worked on and I am currently enjoying my new Athletic Greens routine after we won the business in 2023.”
